Dr. Rakesh Ranjan is the President of The Charak Center for Health and Wellness, Executive Medical Director of The Charak Clinical Research Center and President and CEO of Spectrum Home Healthcare LLC. In addition to his other roles, Dr. Ranjan provides clinical care to patients on a daily basis. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is one of the few research physicians, in the country, certified by the American Council of Research Professionals (ACRP).

Having been involved with clinical research for fifteen years, Dr. Ranjan has been a principal investigator for over 120 clinical trials of novel psychotropic drugs for various neurobiological ailments. Additionally Dr. Ranjan has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on psychopharmacology, and has been the recipient of several research grants and awards. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University.

He serves on the Advisory Board of the Cleveland Chapter of National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and he is involved in educating the public and increasing awareness of mental illness. Moreover, he serves on the Advisory Board and Speakers’ Bureau of leading pharmaceutical companies.

Dr. Ranjan attended medical school at Rajendra Medical College Hospital. Ranchi, India. He completed his residency in psychiatry with the Northeast Ohio Universities College of Medicine at Akron General Medical Center in Akron, Ohio. He subsequently joined a fellowship in psychopharmacology and clinical research under the mentorship of eminent psychiatrist, Dr. Herbert Y. Meltzer, at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and University Hospitals of Cleveland in Ohio.

Earlier this year, Dr Ranjan’s dedication to excellent family oriented patient care, education of the public, patients and their families, as well as de-stigmatization of mental illness was recognized by two prestigious awards. The national chapter of NAMI honored him by naming him one of only forty four Exemplary Psychiatrists Awardees in the nation. At the same time the Ohio Chapter of NAMI bestowed upon him the Psychiatrists of the Year Award.

Finally Dr. Ranjan has taken a leadership role in the Northeast Ohio mental healthcare community by utilizing his media appearances to dispel myths associated with mental illness. His TV appearances include the Robin Swoboda Show (Channel 8), In Good Company (Channel 3), panel discussion on mental health issues in Cuyahoga County (Channel 19/43), several morning news segments on Channel 5 and Channel 3 etc. Additionally, he has co-hosted two different weekly one hour radio talk shows on mental illness at WMMS and Q104.
